Music
This course introduces the study and practice of creating music from varying genres, including, but not limited to, American music, world music, popular tunes, jazz, and traditional music.
Course objectives are to develop collaboration skills and to create music in a group, with an introduction to sight-reading and ear training. Students will be required to perform with the class during recitals.
Chamber Music Ensemble
This course is open to late beginner to advanced level instrumentalists who can read music and
know the fingerings of their particular instrument. This course is also open to vocalists who are
comfortable singing in a soloistic setting. Chamber Music Ensemble will have opportunities to
perform in various settings and explore music of different genres.
Chorus
This course is open to all students. Chorus will focus on ensemble skills, basic music reading,
and vocal technique. The ensemble will practice and perform music of varying styles and genres.
This is the opportunity to work on your collaboration skills and learn to sing in a group, as well
as hone skills to become a successful musician, particularly in voice, including sight-reading and
ear training.
Piano I
This course teaches piano performance and music reading for the beginner and is intended for
students with no music reading experience or limited music reading experience. Students learn
basic finger patterns along with the elements of musical notation, working through various books
to develop facility and skill at the keyboard. Each student will receive assignments in piano
repertoire, technique, and music theory. Students will leave the course with the ability to read
music on the grand staff, treble and bass clef, and with the understanding of basic keyboard
music theory.
Piano II
This course is a continuation of Piano I or for students who are currently playing at an early
intermediate level. Students will continue to work on their facility at the piano, incorporating
more pianistic techniques, as well as expanding their knowledge of music theory and notation.
Each student will receive assignments in piano repertoire, technique and music theory.
Prerequisite: Piano I or instructor permission required.
Brass Instrument Ensemble
The Brass Ensemble course is designed for middle school students with an interest in exploring
the unique sounds and collaborative nature of brass instruments. This class will provide students
with the opportunity to improve their skills on brass instruments such as trumpet, trombone,
French horn, baritone, and tuba, while also developing an understanding of ensemble
performance.
Throughout the course, students will work together to rehearse and perform a variety of music,
ranging from classical to contemporary pieces. The focus will be on improving individual
technique, ensemble listening skills, and musical expression. Students will learn essential
concepts such as balance, blend, phrasing, and dynamics in an ensemble setting.
In addition to musical skill development, the Brass Ensemble class will foster teamwork,
discipline, and creativity, helping students gain confidence in their ability to perform both
individually and as part of a larger group. Students will also have the chance to participate in
performances, showcasing their progress and sharing their love of music with the school
community.
This course is open to students who have a basic understanding of their brass instrument and a
desire to improve their playing in a fun and supportive group environment.
