Transforming lives through arts and education.
Maine Arts Academy (MEAA) aims to transform students’ lives and contribute to the cultural capital of Maine by providing a high quality, comprehensive, college preparatory academic and arts education in an inclusive, nurturing, and culturally rich environment for high school students. Located on a 40 acre campus on Messalonskee Lake (aka Snow Pond) in Sidney, the picturesque setting provides the ideal environment for learning.
MEAA is dedicated to academic excellence, commitment to the performing arts, leadership, integrity, and a virtuous code of conduct, all of which prepare students to meet the demands of a contemporary world through thoughtful attention to curriculum, culture, and civic responsibilities.
MEAA is open to all young people in Maine who will be entering the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade.
The performing arts curriculum in music, theater and dance will include: lessons, technique classes, small and large group ensembles, comprehensive courses in theory, history, and more. MEAA students will be more than musicians and artists; they will be prepared for a lifetime of learning, leadership and active citizenship.
WHAT MAKES MAINE ARTS ACADEMY UNIQUE?
The non-academic benefits of the arts are profound-they help young people build the skills needed for success. Most importantly, the study of the arts teaches students to think creatively, problem-solve, and become detail-oriented. MEAA looks at education as both the accumulation of knowledge and the cultivation of engagement, imagination, leadership and collaboration.
