Science
Our science program is grounded in the Maine Learning Results standards and provides students with a dynamic, inquiry-based foundation in both Life and Physical Sciences. Over the course of their middle school experience, students will explore the structures, functions, and systems that define living organisms, while also investigating the properties of matter, energy, and forces that govern the physical world. Through hands-on investigations, modeling, and data analysis, students will deepen their understanding of topics such as cellular biology, ecosystems, genetics, chemical reactions, motion, and energy transformations. This integrated approach not only encourages scientific curiosity and critical thinking, but also equips students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for high school science and responsible global citizenship.
Physical Science 8th Grade
Life Science 7th Grade
Students use multiple media sources to foster scientific inquiry and spark curiosity in the
exploration of topics, including cells, body systems, reproductive strategies, and genetics.
Students will investigate cell structure in plants and animals and discover how organisms use
cells to perform complex life functions. They will identify and describe the functions of several
body systems, including the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and excretory systems. Students
will evaluate reproductive strategies and genetics to discover the important roles they play in the
survival of organisms. Students will practice critical thinking and exploration of their world to
gain confidence and mastery in life science according to the Next Generation Science Standards
and 7th grade Maine Learning Results.
Students use multiple media sources to foster scientific inquiry and spark curiosity in the
exploration of topics including waves, energy, chemistry and properties of materials, motion and
force, and chemical and field interactions. Students will question, analyze, and critically think
about their world in relation to physical science concepts. Students can connect science to the
arts through projects that display their mastery of science concepts. Students will practice critical
thinking and exploration of their world to gain confidence and mastery in physical science
according to the Next Generation Science Standards and 8th grade Maine Learning Results.
