Dance
This multi-level dance program guides students through the foundations of movement and technique while encouraging artistic expression across various styles, including ballet, modern, and jazz/theatrical dance. Students begin by learning basic positions, body alignment, stretching, and strengthening exercises. As they progress, they explore rhythm, direction, and dynamic movement, gradually incorporating style-specific elements and more complex choreography.
Dance Studies 1
This course introduces the study of basic positions, body alignment, stretches, and strengthening
exercises; and emphasizes simple movement phrases to develop an understanding of direction,
rhythm, and dynamics across genres, including ballet, modern, and jazz/theatrical dance. Course
objectives are to provide a basic understanding and awareness of human anatomy and dance
terminology, establish proper body alignment and technique, and implement an expressive3
performance quality in the studio. This course is an ideal option for students with little to no
experience with dance.
Dance Studies 2
This course offers further study in body positions, body alignment, stretches, and strengthening.
Movement phrases will emphasize not only basic direction, rhythm, and dynamics but also
introduce the stylization of genres, including ballet, modern, and jazz/theatrical dance. Course
Objectives are to provide a deeper understanding and awareness of human anatomy and dance
terminology, establish proper body alignment and technique, and implement an expressive
performance quality in the studio.
Advanced Dance Studies
This course focuses on refining dance techniques, building upon fundamental skills, and
developing artistic expression. While there is an emphasis on complex choreography and
performance skills, students are encouraged to explore their own interests within this course
through student choreography.
